Sunny Holographic Mani

Hello, hello! I was feeling inspired outside the GOT challenge and the Revlon Parfumarie range; this stimulus arose by looking at some pretty holographic polishes in the sun and let's face it, who doesn't like holo on their nails?

I started with two coats of Union Jack Black by Butter London in all but ring fingers, let it dry and applied on two dabbed coats of L.A. Girl in Supernova on the prepped fingers. While that was drying, which btw took forever, I applied two coats of the silvery holographic goodness that Ozotic 509 is and let it dry. I then stamped what I would like to call the stained window pattern from MoYou's Suki 04 plate with Konad's Black Special Polish. I topped all fingers off with one coat of HK Girl topcoat that helped the drying time of Supernova.

I ended up getting a lot of shrinkage on the black nails and usually I would point the finger at Seche Vite for that terrible trait, but this time I'm pretty sure it was Supernova's clear base and my piling of it on the nail. It ended up looking very thick and I actually had  a couple of the black nails pop off in one piece in the shower. :(

It was really pretty while it lasted and very rainbow-y. Blurred photo for effect.

And some  photo spam because you can never have enough holo!

Yeah, that's it from me. I'm just hoping more inspiration comes my way.

Holographic Stamping Because Why Not?

Stamping with holo polishes has been around for a while and in my slow fashion, I just got to try it out. The original plan was to create a tone-on-tone mani but as most of my plans, it went out the window when I realised I only have two holos, one black and one silver, and the black one was calling my name. I'm pretty happy with the resulting mani so I'm about to photo-spam you.

I started with two coats of CoverGirl's Constant Caribbean, swatch included at the bottom of the post, and used the scaly/feathery pattern (is that what this is?)  from the BM-410 plate to stamp with Ozotic in 528. I topped it all of with a coat of Seche Vite.

Of course, the photos were going to be taken out in the sun to show the holo particles. You can sort of see the linear holo effect that 528 would normally have.

Excuse the dirty cuticles, the black holo was really hard to clean up!

I took some photos in the lightbox and I was happy to see there were some rainbow coloured particles from the holo. Nothing impressive but they could still be seen.

This is Constant Caribbean by itself and even though this is a gorgeous colour, the formula is very streaky so it seems to be a good base for stamping.

That's all from me today, I'm glad i was able to keep this short and simple and let the pics speak for themselves.

Till next time,

33 Day Challenge: Dots

Here we go with the first day of the Crumpet's Nail Tarts 33 Day Challenge. Looking at all the prompts, they look kinda scary but I'm hoping my creativity stretches enough to create good results for a whole 33 days. Or be prepared to browse Pinterest for lots of inspiration. :)

This first manicure was strongly inspired by this manicure from the Polish Chest. I've been wanting to recreate it for a while but hadn't found the opportunity to do it. Good thing  the first prompt is dots. Woohoo!

I started with one coat of Ulta3 in Black Satin followed by one coat of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri topcoat and then applied a coat of OPI Matte Top Coat. Once it all dried,  I created the silver dots with a larger dotting tool and Ozotic in 509, a silver linear holo which I believe has been discontinued. Of course, I had to bring it out to the sun to show how awesome this polish is.

Maybelline Impeccable Greys and Ozotic 528

Super quick post tonight.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to a shop. Yes, I am being vague but I do not remember where I went, so I can't say. I think it was the Chemist Warehouse and they were having a half price sale and I kept thinking, 'What polish colour don't I have that I can buy because this Maybelline Color Show bottles are really cheap?'. It was that moment that I realised that I had only one light grey that is not actually a grey, so I got Impeccable Greys for about $3.

Impeccable Greys is a dark grey creme that is opaque with two coats and the formula is very manageable. When I applied the first coat I saw it was very sheer and that it would take a few coats to reach opacity but turns out the second made it dark and even throughout. I didn't take any photos of it by itself because I was impatient and wanted to do some nail art with it. I thought it'd be cool to create a glitter skittle with Ozotic 528  but the execution wasn't great as you can see below. Topped it all off with a coat of Seche Vite.

I know it's terrible but I love this Ozotic polish. Tasha did a small review of the polish here when she first started the blog and that's the main reason I ended up buying it. I thought I didn't really have much to add to it but then I took this photo.

Most swatches show the green/purple duochrome of the glitter but the flash of my camera ended up showing all the colours in the spectrum between the green and purple. This shift is visible in real life if you are paying heaps of attention and try to see the orange/red/blue colours that appear with some lights.

For some reason, I thought this polish had been discontinued from the piCture pOlish website but turns out you can still get here and, for overseas buyers, through their international network. I'm nowhere near done with my bottle but it's good to see that I'll be able to still get it when I run out.

Till next time,

Ozotic Elytra 528

Hooray, I've gotten around to posting a nail polish review! I've been agonising over what to review first, but I've finally decided on this little Australian-made beauty.

Ozotic nail polish was recommended to me by a friend and fellow laquerista. They make a range of gorgeous nail polishes with various effects (holographic, duo chrome etc.). The first Ozotic polish I purchased, Elytra 528,  is a multi-chrome particle glitter polish. The polish colour changes from pink and purple to teal and green, depending on your movements and the light hitting the polish. It's quite a thin polish, and needs to be layered over another polish. A dark polish will bring out the best in the stunning, shifting colours.

I tried to capture all the variations in colour of 528, you can see the shift from pinky-purple to green in this picture. I used 3 coats over a matte black, and then a coat of Essie Good to Go. The glitter is so fine and smooth you can get away with no top coat, but I work with my hands so I need all the help I can get to make my polish stay on! The length of my nails is a little uneven, because I lose a nail almost every shift. Speaking of work, this polish inspired tonnes of comments the first time I wore it there.

You can buy Ozotic polishes from Picture Polish. They are an Australian company, but they do ship worldwide. It is a little on the expensive side for those outside of Australia, but this colour will be a stunning jewel in anyone's polish collection, and is totally worth it.
