Gradient Glitter Sandwich Accent

I didn't really want to put another pink post up but I have to tell you this is my third attempt at nail art today and I was getting a little frustrated. I grabbed the closest one coater and went from there as I really wanted to post something today.

I started with Leighton Denny, a UK brand, in SO L.A. and applied one medium coat and left it without top coat as it was shiny enough without it. For the accent, I dabbed a coat of Sportgirl's Nail It! in Atlantis and created a gradient with OPI's Yodel Me on My Cell and An Affair In Red Square. I only sealed the accent with Seche Vite.

The gradient was quite sheer but it let the glitter colours pop a little more than expected.

I know, I know. The gradient wasn't great and the glitter coat created a lump on the side  of my nail. Like most of my nail art, it looks better from afar. :)

In my last post I mentioned the colour of What'Up could be very easy to find and I think I may just have prove the point.

To my defence, So L.A. came in a 8 bottle pack where I couldn't choose the colours. So What'Up is still totally justified.

I'll leave you with that. I promise I'll have something better in the next post.

Till next time,

Welcome To The Jungle

For a small period of time, I was trying to do really hard nail art. Frustration started to set in because it did not look good, which made me come to the conclusion that I didn't have a lot of practice and that maybe I should start with simple nail art.

I present to you, my second attempt at leopard spots on an accent nail, first attempt was a little too even. I started with two coats of essence's Gorgeous Bling Bling, dotted the gold on my ring finger using a Sportsgirl nail art pen and completed the leopard print with a Topshop black nail art pen. I finished it all off with a coat of Rimmel Pro Matte Finish.

Tasha did an awesome version when this blog first started, you can see it here, and I always thought this print would be hard to achieve. I'm so glad to be wrong.

This is the shiny version. Call me boring, predictable or anything else that may come to mind, but I always like the matted version of my manicures better. I feel the lack of shine brings out the colour and effect of the polish better. For example, you can see the flakies a lot better in the matted version as it's not competing with the shine for my attention. One thing at the time for me.

Anyway, I might try some tiger stripes for my next mani. Or zebra, since they're practically the same, just with different colours.

Til next time,

Laura

Nail art: a noob's tale.

I adore nail art. I'm always amazed by the beautiful and creative designs that Laqueristas and nail techs come up with. I've dabbled a little in nail art in the past, but I've never been overly impressed with the results. It always looks too messy, and not perfect enough.

So today, I'm proud to show off some free-hand nail art that I did. It was inspired by this post, from this even more inspiring blog. I present, the Rockabilly Manicure!

Bonus: Background Boyfriend!
I used Sportsgirl Tomato for the half moon, Butter London Yummy Mummy as the base, BYS Matte Black for the leopard spots, and OPI Bling Dynasty for the leopard spot accents. A coat of Seche Vite evened out the surface of my nails and made them super shiny.

I made it one of my New Year's resolutions to be more edgy and adventurous, fashion-wise. I love the current moon manicure trend, but I've been too nervous to try it, until I saw this design.

Stay tuned for more nail art noob adventures!
